Nanotechnology is already present in several resources or components in areas such as medicine, electronics, biology, computer science, materials engineering and others: it is such a significant technology that grows so quickly in scale and application that it has the potential to revolutionize many aspects of science and industry. Put this way, this article seeks to investigate the concept of nanotechnology, its genesis and historical evolution, as well as real use cases, in addition to risks and possible trends for the future. It is, therefore, a theoretical study of bibliographic review, in order to elucidate the importance of this technology today and for the next years or decades. What can be seen, from this study, is that there is a very fertile field for nanotechnology to evolve and gain more and more space in the process of historical evolution of humanity.
