Abstract

This article discusses the emergence and evolution of the concept of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) in the context of agribusiness. Caricatured for the world of investments, ESG has expanded its influence to several economic sectors, including agribusiness. The article explores how growing awareness of socio-environmental and ethical issues has led companies in the agricultural sector to adopt more sustainable and responsible practices. Furthermore, it analyzes how ESG influences the image, operations and performance of agribusiness companies. To this end, qualitative approaches are used, including bibliographic review and document analysis.

This article discusses the emergence and evolution of the concept of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) in the context of agribusiness. Initially focused on the world of investments, ESG expanded its influence to various economic sectors, including agribusiness. The article addresses how growing awareness of socio-environmental and ethical issues has led companies in the agricultural sector to adopt more sustainable and responsible practices. Furthermore, through qualitative approaches, including bibliographic review and document analysis, the work brings reflections on the way in which ESG influences the image, operations and performance of agribusiness companies.
