ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN UNIVERSITIES
An academic revolution with ChatGPT

This article looks at the impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence, specifically ChatGPT, in the academic context after its launch in November 2022. Through an exploratory-descriptive qualitative research and systematic literature review of publications between 2022 and 2025, it was investigated how this technology has transformed pedagogical practices and created new ethical challenges in higher education. The results show a duality: on the one hand, ChatGPT works as a personalized tutor, optimizing teachers' time and democratizing access to knowledge; on the other hand, it raises concerns about academic integrity, the development of critical thinking, and students' technological dependence. Experts such as Ortiz (2024) highlight its benefits in personalizing learning, while Kelly (2023) warns of risks to educational quality. socio-emotional skills that transcend the cognitive. It is concluded that the future of higher education lies not in the prohibition of these tools, but in the adaptation of pedagogical practices to foster skills that machines cannot replace, balancing technological innovation and fundamental educational values.Downloads
