Abstract

In the long run, there is a tendency to deplete traditional energy sources, and several researchers have stated that the interest in renewable and alternative energy matrices has been experiencing a growth phase in Brazil. The production of biogas has been advancing in several aspects, being responsible for the reduction of the emission of organic methane and CO2 in the atmosphere, being able to be used in the generation of electricity and as biofuel for vehicles, replacing diesel. Biomass of organic origin has the benefit of generating renewable energy, in the form of heat and electricity, reducing the environmental impact due to its disposal. However, some scholars have stated that there is a lack of policies enabling the entry of technologies used in biogas processing stations in Brazil. This article aims to analyze the current conditions of biogas production in Brazil, as well as the perspectives for its production from agro-industrial waste, together with its use as energy.
