PEC 231/95 AND THE REDUCTION OF WORKING HOURS: ANALYSIS OF IMPACT ON BRAZILIAN COMPANIES

Abstract

Workers' quest to reduce working hours is not something new. The search is for a reduction from 44 hours to 40 hours per week and has been the stage for discussion after the processing of the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) 231/95. The workers' struggle is to define a workload that allows them more time away from the workplace, and one of the reasons for the need for this reduction is the preservation of mental health. However, it is clear that reducing this working day can have an impact on companies. Within this context, the objective of this study is to highlight the main impacts caused to Brazilian companies by reducing working hours. The methodology used was Literature Review, where online articles were consulted in the SciELO database and Google Scholar. The literature consulted points out that reducing the number of jobs would have positive impacts on the Brazilian economy, as the trend is that there is an increase in jobs. Workers also with the new reduction tend to have a better quality of life, as many are exhausted and affected by psychological illnesses.
