Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is a widely used process in the industry for manufacturing high-precision parts with complex geometries. This article discusses the application of this process in the machining of keyway slots, a crucial component for torque transmission between shafts and mechanical couplings. The methodology employed includes a literature review, process parameter analysis, and an experimental study under different operating conditions. The results demonstrate that EDM enables the fabrication of keyway slots with high dimensional accuracy and excellent surface finish, reducing the need for subsequent finishing processes. The discussion compares the efficiency of EDM with conventional machining methods, highlighting its advantages and limitations. It is concluded that EDM is a viable alternative for machining keyway slots in high-hardness materials, ensuring high-quality and process repeatability.
