Abstract

The luxury goods market stands out for a unique production system that values know-how, exclusivity and differentiation, creating high customer expectations for defect-free, durable and sustainable products. In 2019, the global luxury market reached 281 billion euros. However, even these companies also present operational problems. This study aimed to improve companies’ internal logistics and processes, reviewing methods of supplying material to production lines and analyzing production processes, namely the use and management of filters that support leather glueing and painting operations. The filters are responsible for absorbing excess of glue or paint on the edges of the products, preventing them from glue or paint agglomerations. The use of the DMAIC methodology and Lean tools (Lean Six-Sigma) allowed the optimization of the production line supply resulting in fewer errors in the distribution of materials, changes in products used to support gluing and painting operations, reduction of warehouse inventories, less operators’ movement and a reduction in waste sent to landfills. After implementing all improvement suggestions, annual savings of more than €100,000 are expected and an increase of 77.73% in usable warehouse area. The organization's environmental impact was also mitigated, with a reduction in the amount of waste sent to landfills by 88.72%.
